This webinar is the first webinar in the OJKI-UNEP FI Islamic Finance webinars series. The webinar aims to introduce the epistemology of Islamic finance and its intersection with sustainability principles. It will also introduce various current sustainable finance developments and innovations in the global Islamic finance industry, providing participants with an overview of the current state of global Islamic finance’s integration with sustainability principles and relevant standards of initiatives and practices. 

The webinar aims to cover three topics: 

1. Sustainable Finance Principles Adoption in the Islamic Finance Industry 

The session will showcase gaps and opportunities of the sustainable finance principle adoption in Islamic financing. It will explore the alignment of sustainability principles such as SDGs are aligned, and how the adoption of these principles can strengthen Maqasid Sharia Pillars, the foundation of Islamic law and Islamic Finance. 

2. Sustainable Finance Development and Innovation in the Global Islamic Financing

The session will cover the sustainable finance development and innovation in the global Islamic finance industry. It will explore the how global Islamic banks adopted conventional international climate and sustainability standards and apply it to create an Islamic sustainable finance products and disclosure practices. 

3. The Integration of Sustainable Finance Practice in the Global Islamic Finance Industry 

The session will illuminate the current state of Islamic finance landscape and the integration of sustainability principle in its business practices. The participants will be introduced to existing standards and ecosystem in Islamic Finance industry, and explore the various opportunities to innovate in developing new Islamic finance products or services that integrates sustainability principles. 

The primary objectives of this webinar are to:
