Background

According to the Global Gender Gap Report 2025, women’s participation and achievements in higher education, leadership, and economic contribution have continued to increase consistently. Women are increasingly present in decision-making spaces and strategic sectors, including education, finance, technology, and public policy. These achievements affirm that women are not only part of change, but also key actors in shaping the future of global society.

In Indonesia, women have also demonstrated increasingly significant progress and achievements across various sectors. While during Kartini’s era the struggle of Indonesian women focused on access to education and the fight for basic rights, today many of these efforts have materialized, with women becoming leaders, professionals, academics, entrepreneurs, innovators, and drivers of social change. This transformation reflects the evolving role of women in the modern era.

Furthermore, based on World Bank data, the majority of MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) in Indonesia are run by women, positioning them as one of the key pillars of national economic resilience and growth. In addition, digital transformation has opened new opportunities for women to create, innovate, and expand their impact through technology, financial literacy, and digital-based entrepreneurship.

Amid global challenges such as economic uncertainty, geopolitical dynamics, and the evolving world of work, it is essential to raise awareness among Indonesian women to continuously enhance their capabilities, strengthen literacy, and build both intellectual and social resilience. Lifelong education and access to knowledge are crucial to ensure that women can continue to grow and contribute sustainably.

The commemoration of Kartini Day serves as a meaningful moment for reflection to celebrate the progress and achievements of women today through this event, as a platform to share inspiration, ideas, and experiences from accomplished and influential women in their respective fields. This initiative is expected to inspire Indonesian women, especially the younger generation, to continue learning, empowering themselves, and taking an active role in building an advanced, adaptive, and competitive Indonesia in the face of global change.
