Background
  • Adequate access to financing is a critical driver of economic growth, expanding opportunities for the public to develop businesses and meet productive needs. At the same time, however, financial institutions must ensure that financing is extended appropriately to debtors with sound repayment capacity and prospects. Against this backdrop, the quality of credit information and the application of credit scoring play an increasingly important role in supporting the creditworthiness assessment process.
  • Advances in technology and the growing availability of data have opened up opportunities for financial institutions to conduct credit assessments more swiftly, accurately, and objectively. The effective use of credit scoring and credit information can help financial institutions gain a more comprehensive understanding of prospective debtors' profiles and repayment capacity, while also supporting improved credit risk management. This approach can further serve as a means of broadening access to financing, particularly for communities and businesses that formal financial services have not fully served.
  • That said, optimising credit scoring is not simply a matter of leveraging technology and data. The quality, completeness, and relevance of the information used must also be given due consideration. Furthermore, credit assessment models must be applied responsibly, with due regard to transparency, consumer protection, data security, and prudential principles.
  • Building on this, a broader understanding and perspective is needed on how credit scoring and credit information can be optimised to support more effective, sound, and inclusive financing. This webinar is intended to serve as a platform for sharing insights and practical experience, while also examining the opportunities and challenges involved in leveraging credit information to enhance the quality of financing distribution.
  • Through discussions involving relevant stakeholders, this webinar aims to offer perspectives on strengthening credit scoring and the use of credit information as part of broader efforts to promote quality financing, improved risk management, and expanded access to financing for communities and businesses alike.
